LISTEN WITH YOUR EYES!

Most people who come to our concert are content to listen with their ears, but Bernard Perry is lucky enough to experience a visual sensation of the music at the same time.

This condition is known medically as synaesthesia, when the stimulation of one sense organ causes another to respond.  It is an experience Bernard shares with  David Hockney, Rimsky-Korsakov, Messiaen and many famous creative people.

Bernard says "I am a fortunate sufferer from synaesthesia.  When I am moved by live music I respond by 'seeing' the music in terms of light and colour and am able to record these impressions on paper.  It gives me great joy to 'hear' the music once again in this manner."

We thought you might enjoy seeing Bernard's painting of our AFYM Concert in March 2008, together with two other of his musical paintings.
